About ORM Fertility
ORM Fertility — now part of Pinnacle Fertility, one of the largest fertility care networks in the United States with 30+ clinic locations nationwide — has been a cornerstone of reproductive medicine in the Pacific Northwest since 1989. The Downtown Portland clinic at 808 SW 15th Ave has built a national reputation for clinical excellence, particularly in donor egg IVF, gestational surrogacy, and LGBTQ+ family building.
ORM holds dual accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), is a member of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART), and is registered with the FDA. The clinic was named to Newsweek's 2023 America's Top 100 Fertility Clinics, a recognition that reflects its consistently outstanding outcomes.
ORM Fertility is especially experienced in third-party reproduction — including egg donation and surrogacy — with dedicated programs for gay male families, lesbian families, and trans families. Oregon's favorable legal environment for surrogacy makes ORM an ideal choice for intended parents seeking a secure, well-regulated jurisdiction for their family-building journey. The clinic's physicians have also expanded services to patients from Europe and the Middle East, providing hope to individuals and couples who face legal or regulatory barriers to family building in their home countries.

Lead Physicians
Dr. John S. Hesla, MD, FACOG
A Portland native, Dr. Hesla's passion for reproductive science was ignited at age 17 during an internship at the Oregon National Primate Research Center. He earned his MD from Oregon Health & Science University, completed his OBGYN residency at UCLA, and pursued his REI fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, where he subsequently served as IVF Director and Chief of Reproductive Surgery. In 1993, he founded and directed the IVF program at Emory University, and later co-directed the Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine — one of the highest-success-rate clinics in the world. He co-founded ORM Fertility's innovative IVF program in 1999 and also built one of the world's first embryology cleanrooms, setting new standards for IVF safety and excellence. Dr. Elizabeth A. Barbieri, MD, FACOG
Dr. Barbieri brings an Ivy League background and deep empathy to her practice. She earned her undergraduate degree from Yale University and her MD from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She completed her OBGYN residency at Northwestern University's McGaw Medical Center and her REI fellowship at the renowned Weill Cornell Medical Center. She specializes in IVF, genetic causes of infertility, preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), and egg freezing. Having experienced the challenges of later-life family building herself as a mother of three, she is a passionate advocate for egg freezing and personalized fertility care. Dr. Brandon J. Bankowski, MD, MPH, FACOG
Dr. Bankowski holds a bioengineering degree from Cornell University, an MD from Georgetown University School of Medicine, and an MPH from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He completed both his OBGYN residency and REI fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He joined ORM Fertility in 2005 and has since been instrumental in expanding the clinic's reach to patients from Europe and the Middle East, alongside Dr. Hesla. His research includes a breakthrough study linking specific periodontal bacteria to recurrent miscarriage, presented at an international congress in Prague. He is dedicated to improving patients' genetic health through comprehensive screening and state-of-the-art preimplantation genetic testing (PGT). Having personally navigated infertility — including miscarriage, multiple treatment cycles, and ultimately welcoming twins — he brings profound empathy to his practice.
